New Wave Oz - £54.99

New Wave Oz - £54.99

It is easy to imagine Australia as one large vineyard in climatic terms, but nothing could be further from the truth. Coriole was established by the Lloyd family in 1968 and its location in the Seaview sub-region (of McLaren Vale) looks over the Gulf of St. Vincent and is decidedly Mediterranean.

A wonderfully elegant example of Sauvignon Blanc, Winkl comes from vines between 300-500 m. Good Sauvignon nose ripe green fruits and elderflower. Fresh, lively palate and a fine minerally finish. Excellent.

Sparkling Rose, Charles Pelletier x 1 - £20.99

Sparkling Rose, Charles Pelletier x 1 - £20.99

We have been searching for a good quality French sparkling wine for quite some time, something that one could serve up at functions or parties in great quantity, without breaking the bank or poisoning the guests and, at long last, we've tracked one down. Both the Charles Pelletier Blanc de Blancs and Rosé are quite remarkable value - dry, clean, with good fruit and sustained fizz, the Rosé has a really lovely wild strawberry quality to it. A lot of quality here - happy sparklers!

Domaine de Chevallier Chablis - £21.99

Domaine de Chevallier Chablis - £21.99

t took a while to find the village of Montallery but the outstanding Chablis that we tasted at the cellars of Claude and Jean-Louis Chevallier were more than worth the journey. One glance at their immaculate cellars and it became clear that the brothers were fastidious about cleanliness and extremely serious about Chablis. The village level Chablis only sees stainless steel and the crisp, pure flavours and minerality come solely from the soil and the grape - this is superb 'basic' Chablis. We recommend anyone who hasn't tried a Chablis for a while, let alone a decent one, to buy a case of this wine - it will make a believer out of you again.
